Buckle ‘shocked’ those at the club on Tuesday when he left by mutual consent just hours before Town’s 1-1 draw at 10-man Macclesfield Town. But his former colleagues and charges are still in the dark as to the ‘genuine personal circumstances’ that led to his departure. On how the players had responded to the departure, assistant boss Alex Neilson, speaking at today’s press conference, said: “There was a bit of shock. Paul Buckle came in yesterday and said his farewells. He came and spoke to the lads. That’s why we came in and did a cool down and had a practice match. It was a shock to everybody.” However, he admitted they were still in the dark about his reasons for leaving, adding: “It’s been left to the one side. Paul Buckle, the gaffer, spoke to the players yesterday and said his thanks yous and Gary Sweet spoke to the players on Tuesday.”
