Brabin refuses to panicafter Luton are beaten

Having whimpered to a 3-0 reverse at York City on Saturday, Town stuttered to a 1-0 home defeat against Cambridge United in midweek, but Brabin pleaded with supporters to keep backing his players after boos rang out at the final whistle. He said: “Obviously I’m disappointed and frustrated – angry. “Like I keep saying it is early doors. We are disappointed but looking around at the results all of the sides seem to be finding it hard. “We’ve just got to keep believing in what we are doing day in day out. “The players are in good spirits day in day out. It took a bit of a knock but we want to lift the lads and keep believing. “We’ve got some key players training day in day out and it will be a real lift when they can play. “There’s a few heads down at the moment and they’re probably a little bit disappointed like we all are. “They haven’t become bad players overnight. A week ago we were top of the league and at the moment it’s wide open.” On the boos at the end, Brabin continued: “I can totally understand it, there’s a big expectancy. “All I can say is it is a long season and keep supporting the boys. “If they want to air any frustrations I have a thick skin and can take it.” Luton had started the game brightly enough and had they converted the handful of chances created in the first half when on top, the result could have been very different. Brabin continued: “I thought first half we came out of the traps quite good. First half we played on the front foot and with a tempo. “I’m a bit disappointed we never got on the end of things we created in the first half. “I thought Amari (Morgan-Smith) had a chance and the lad has come in and scythed him down. “The ball’s gone and he’s given a goal-kick, so I don’t know what he (the referee) is doing. “Second half they’ve got bodies behind the ball to frustrate us and got a goal against the run of play. “Second half we started aiming for long balls which is something we don’t work on. “The last five minutes we’ve thrown Janos (Kovacs) up to try and salvage something but it’s not something we want to do.” Substitutes John Paul Kissock and Adam Watkins were brought on, possibly too late in the day, but Brabin stated he didn’t want to put too much pressure on the like of Watkins. He said: “I’m all for helping young lads but they should be playing on merit rather than throwing them in when he has to play. “I always believe in the players we’ve got. We’ve got some good players. It is early doors and only a week ago we were top of the league. “We’ve got players we need to get back on the pitch.” On the substitutions and final outcome, he added: “There’s a lot of different ways of looking at it. “JP came on for 20 minutes and Adam wanted a little bit more. “We’ve thrown everything at them. At the moment we are giving teams a little bit of a lift and they’ve come here and defended like their lives depended on it. “They came here, worked hard, came for a draw and got a win.”
