Jones believes the manner of the performance might just excite the majority of the 8,000-plus Luton fans about their side’s potential for next term.

“Providing that we’re at it and do our work then it’s possible.
“We spoke all week about the intensity in our training and our play, as we didn’t want it to be an end of season game.

“We’ve had halves where we’ve had same amount of chances, and we’ve had games here we’ve really, really dominated but haven’t quite got the goal and it’s been frustration, then we get hit by the sucker punch.
“I asked for a clinical edge, a real bravery in possession, and for tempo in our play.
“I’m pleased, the goals were the icing on the cake, some of the football I thought was magnificent as well.

“We looked like we were going to score, we hit the post, the keeper made some good saves.
“I’m playing it down a little bit, but some of our play was outstanding, so it’s a good day.”
