Hide Ad“A bit of life experience is a bonus as older people who are housebound like to connect with someone who has the same interests, or who’s worked at the same place – albeit in different generations.”
She added: “We try to match those with similar or complementary hobbies and pursuits.
“Some volunteers read newspaper or magazine articles to the person they’re befriending. Others play chess, discuss TV programmes or politics. Some listen to music or just talk about life in general.”
Volunteers are CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked and undergo training to ensure their safety and that of the older person.
