Big queues... but the wait was worth it

It’s quite amazing to see the growth of Eurogamer Expo with each and every year. The size of the hall is no longer manageable in one hour, like year one, you’re here for the whole day if you want to see and possibly play the latest upcoming videogames if you have the patience of a saint. Queues were big this year, which meant I was more than happy to watch my favourite up and coming games such as Batman Arkham City, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Battlefield 3. All of which looked absolutely stunning to look at and exciting to watch. I don’t have to play the games to know of the quality which is coming at us in a couple of weeks. I am a nerd after all. This year, the Eurogamer Expo took over the main front doors, allowing themselves the biggest room in the building and they filled it extremely well. Gone were the tiny banners with pen scrawled on them to let you know which game you’re playing, instead there were gigantic yet tasteful banners prominently displaying artwork and the title of the game. It all felt very professionally done this year and that could only mean one thing. It’ll get better next year. Game of the show, you ask? To be honest, it’s somewhat of a tough call between the new Counter Strike: Global Offensive downloadable game, the aforementioned Skyrim and many more but one game which is due out sooner than later on October 7 is a game from one of my favourite developers of all time idsoftware, a game called Rage. Rage is set in a post-apocolyptic world where humanity is dealing with an asteroid crashing into the planet and you’re a rarity in the world. You have appeared from a life pod, known as an Ark, from miles underground in the attempt to restore humanity back to its natural environment only to see that things have gone horribly wrong. From the creators of Doom and Quake, you can expect a high-octane first person shooter with brand new technology from idtech5. Seriously, game of the show. Star Wars The Old Republic, the Bioware MMO-based in a very popular universe was given a release date of December 22. A surefire way to ruin your family Christmas and the behind the scenes talks with various developers were once again incredible. If you wanted to meet or see what these people do to ensure that videogaming is as fun as it can be, then you should really check out those people talking on stage. It’s very much inspiring.
