New Town signing Jake Gray is hoping for a far better return from Plymouth Argyle than when he played there while on loan for Hartlepool last season.

That day, the 20-year-old came on at half time with his side trailing 2-0 as they went on to suffer a 5-0 reverse in their final match of the campaign.

On his memories of the afternoon, Gray said: “That was my last game for Hartlepool, probably my best half of football for Hartlepool.

“I came on at half time, it’s a nice ground, but they were tough that day, we lost 5-0, maybe that’s why I came on at half time.

“It was a long journey as I think we got back at three in the morning, so it’s a bit closer down here, so shouldn’t be as bad.”

Gray believes that a game against one of the teams tipped for promotion along with Luton this season first up is no bad thing though, adding: “We’re definitely going to be challenging them.

“We want to show everyone what we’re about this season, it’s a good game to show everyone that, so we’re looking forward to it.”
