Tense drama in Shakespeare’s Venetian tale
The tense, provocative and powerful Shakespeare play will be broadcast to the venue from Stratford-upon-Avon, where it is being performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Antonio, the Merchant of Venice, graciously loans three thousand ducats to his friend Bassanio in order to assist him wooing the wealthy and beautiful Portia. With money tied up in business ventures that depend on ships at sea, Antonio decides to borrow money from Shylock, a Jewish moneylender known for his extortionately high rates of interest.
